“We believe bodybuilding, in the true sense, is synonymous with living a healthy lifestyle. There are those who believe otherwise, that bodybuilding is about how much muscle you can build by any means, healthy or not, even including the use of dangerous, illegal drugs, anything. This is not a magazine for them. This magazine is for everyone who goes to a gym, eats healthy and endeavors to build their body – to make themselves look and feel better; to slow the aging process; to build muscle and burn fat; to be healthy and more fit.” - Steve Blechman, Current Publisher & Editor-in-Chief of Muscular Development, 1997

February, 1999 issue of Muscular Development (note the full title....)
In 2000, the motto on the cover is ‘Build muscle, burn fat, be fit’. And the title reads ‘”Muscular Development sports and fitness magazine” on the cover. By late 2000, the ‘sports and fitness magazine’ portion of the title had changed to ‘health and fitness magazine’. By 2001, it was “Build Muscle, Burn Fat, No Bullshit“.

Now, Muscular Development announces steroids/drugs on their cover....
(Note: in 2001, sales for TwinLab (the nutritional company which owned MD at the time) were going downhill. Sales were horrible by 2002, and they were eventually so bad that in 2003 TwinLab filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. In 2005, the Blechman family sold TwinLab – notice that the slump in supplement sales correspond almost exactly, time-wise, to the amount of steroid related content and the pro-steroid direction of the magazine.)
