Well, it’s finally here…I have the final page count of Generation S, and it’s been converted into the final format you’ll see it in. I’m thrilled…it’s about seven weeks from release, and I’m going over it and making final suggestions to my editor. It’s clocking in at 335 pages, no pictures…so I’m hoping my editor comes up with some cool pics, and we end up at roughly 350 pages. Still, even without pics, 335 (estimated) pages is a pretty long book. It’s got 16 full chapters, and then a bunch of little essays I wrote, smaller stuff, that wasn’t enough to make a chapter, but were still tight enough to put into the book. The essays are the kinds of things you would expect from me here in my blog, while the chapters represent literally years and months of research. I kind of assumed most people would read the book straight through, but the chapters all stand alone I think. In other words, if you skipped around, you wouldn’t be missing too much, and especially if you are familiar with the steroid world, you’ll be able to go from one chapter to another one, randomly, and not lose the plot.
The chapters are:
I’m guessing that the focus of some of those chapters will be obvious (”Wrestling with Steroids” is about steroids in professional wrestling, Dan 3:16 is about Dan Duchaine, “Jacob’s Splatter” is about the murder/suicide of David Jacobs, etc…), while others will be less obvious. The book is aimed primarily at “regular people” i.e. people who don’t use steroids, but want to know how things really work in the underground and on the black market. There’s a 42 page chapter that goes over everything that went on behind the scenes with every single site I’ve ever been a mod on, worked on, or written for – Steroid.com, EliteFitness.com, Mesomorphosis.com, T-Nation.com, MindAndMuscle.net, SteroidSuperBoard, AlinBoard, Triedia, Bodybuilding4life, etc…the good, the bad, and the ugly. I didn’t hold anything back, and I go over everything I know about them….which is more than enough to shock most people. Some of those site owners are gay, some are swingers, others pay for their girlfriends, smoke pot every day, etc…some didn’t graduate high-school, and others have a 160 I.Q. and/or graduate degrees. It’s an interesting contrast and case study in various personalities behind the smokescreens of their online personas. Once you read my book, you’ll literally know everything that goes on behind the scenes at every major (and not-so-major) steroid site on the internet.
And, even if you aren’t really sure how steroids work, I’ve got that kind of information in there too….plus studies and statistics on steroid usage at gyms, in sports, professional athletics, high schools, and more. It’s an insane amount of information based on literally thousands of pages of studies, books, articles, etc….
I’ve always had the attitude that when you buy my book(s), you become my boss for the day, while you’re reading the book. So I approach things with that idea. My readers are, to my thinking, my bosses, not the other way around. I’m not the boss because I’m writing – I’m writing FOR you.
My Chapter on Operation Raw Deal weighs in at 30 pages, and I not only talked to the underground labs who got busted, but the DEA & FDA. If you want both sides of the story, this is the most complete history of ORD you’ll ever see, starting from the first bust to the last one, and through to the sentencing days, and the snitching that lead to other busts. Most people probably know that Operation Farmacia de Juicy Phruit was related to the GeneScience busts that happened during Operation Raw Deal…but there’s a lot of stuff you probably don’t know, that’s in the book also.
The chapter on TKO is pretty brutal also, and goes over a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff that people probably didn’t know about (murder, kidnapping, etc…). People will probably be shocked at a lot of the information I have about Doctors, on both sides of the issue – from Dr. Michael Scally to Dr. Michael Dullnig, to Ramon Scruggs to Walter Jekot – and a lot more. I cover every doctor who has made an impact in the steroid world for an entire generation. And of course, I talk about some real scumbag doctors too…
I go pretty in-depth talking about bodybuilding, the nutritional industry, and the bodybuilding magazine world. I rip apart the NPC and IFBB pretty badly, going behind the scenes with the drug use (which I have no problem with) and the politics (which I do). Manion, Thompson, and their ilk get publicly blasted, in print, like they’ve never been before…They’re going to hate what I have to say in my new book…it’s a great thing to be able to write a book, and make sure that someone will go down in history the way they deserve to.
And naturally I give some pages to Jose Canseco, The Mitchell Report, the NFL, and all of the other mainstream stuff that you’d expect – the stuff that made headlines, but didn’t really effect us in the underground – other than to put our lifestyle on frontstreet.
