The House that Hugh Laurie Built

The House that Hugh Laurie Built

Depending on how much you know about me personally, you may or may not know that my preferred beer is Sam Adams. My favorite bands (in no particular order) are Flogging Molly, Social Distortion, and Dropkick Murphys, and  I like the Yankees, Giants, Nets, and Devils (in precisely that order). Almost 100% of the television I watch is animated – Family Guy, etc…

But the one exception to that rule is House. I’m a huge fan of Dr. Gregory House, M.D. I’ve been following the show since the first season and have even purchased most of the seasons on DVD (even though I’ve seen them all, and they’re basically available online for free). I even tend to categorize my life in House-ian terms. Millard Baker is my Dr. Wilson, for example.

HouseChartAnd this is precisely why it’s a dream-come-true working on my new book Generation S with ECW Press. Huh? Because they happen to publish a ton of kick-ass books, one of which is called “The House that Hugh Laurie Built.” Yes, I got a free copy, and yes, I read it cover to cover within a couple of short days (even though it’s actually a pretty long book).

If you’re a fan of House, this is an awesome book. I don’t usually do book reviews here in my blog, but this one just blew me away. I’ve read three books put out by my publisher (one about professional wrestling, one about the Benoit tragedy, and the House one), and have been really impressed by all of them. Being a professional author, I’m not an easy sell on books, and I tend to be a pretty harsh critic.

The thing about ECW Press that has continued to impress me is the gritty, ground-level writing that they’re known for publishing. Even if you’re 63houseMDan Uber-Fan like me, you’ll find very little to complain about in their books…in other words, these are the kinds of books fans want to read because they’re written by experts who are also fans. It’s a great relationship between culture and writing. If you didn’t know that three of the main actors on the show (including Laurie) have doctors for fathers, and that’s the kind of trivia you enjoy spewing out at your friends and family whenever the show is on, YOU NEED THIS BOOK. The depth of information and accuracy is just untouchable.

As another, perhaps more tangible example to my regular readers, ECW’s Chris Benoit book (simply called “Benoit”), covers various aspects of anabolic steroid use, and even though I’m on my fourth published book about steroids, I couldn’t have done a better job myself explaining the details surrounding his murder suicide.

Anyway, if you share my interest and love for all things House, do yourself a favor and pick this book up. Oh…and just in case you were wondering…it’s not lupus…it’s never lupus.
