For the past few weeks I’ve known about two positive drug tests at the Team Universe. I haven’t blogged about them because I didn’t want to give up my source for the information (I protect my sources!), and because I couldn’t get outside confirmation or documentation. I contacted several people within the industry, and nobody could give me the confirmation I needed – until now. In a podcast, John Hansen and Mike Neumann spoke with two competitors (Kiyoshi Moody and Thomas Anderson), one of whom dropped dime on the Team Universe. Apparently, this competitor received a phone call about two of the athletes testing positive, although he doesn’t reveal which ones they were, my sources tell me that it was:
So, although this hasn’t hit any of the bodybuilding sites or magazines (to my knowledge), it appears that both of the Overall winners in the NPC Team Universe have failed their drug tests. Let me stress that I trust my sources on this one, but that I also have to admit that while there were confirmed positive tests at the Team Universe, right now I am confidant, though not 100% sure, reporting that very strong information I’ve obtained indicate that those tests belonged to the men’s and women’s Overall bodybuilding champions. Again, the positive tests have been confirmed although the identities have not – the names above are what I’m hearing.
The NPC has not officially released any word as of this writing, although as I’ve said, this information has been in my hands for weeks, and only now has a competitor come forward and confirmed that there were in fact positive doping tests, prompting me to move forward with the information. The names of the two people who have failed the test are unconfirmed from official sources currently – and word has it that they tested positive for diuretics, not anabolic steroids, and they should be considered innocent until proven guilty.
It would be a huge black eye to the NPC to be forced to admit that their two Overall Champions both tested positive, although in my eyes, this kind of transparency is necessary if the organization is to claim any shred of credibility.
